Moving to Costa Rica enjoys a green life
Costa Rica has a good environment, it is universally acknowledged. Costa Rica has beautiful environment, clean air, wide variety of animals and plants, and its ecological protection is fruitful. It is also known as the “Central American Garden”.
More than 52% of Costa Rica's is covered by forests, and one quarter of the territory is a national park. “green” is the “primary color” of this small central American country.
Costa Rica attaches great importance to the development and use of clean energy. Currently, 93% of the electricity in Costa Rica is provided by clean energy such as wind, water and geothermal. Costa Rica has the highest proportion of clean energy use among the six central American countries.
As early as 2007, the Costa Rican government announced that it planned to become the world's first “carbon neutral” country by 2021. It will calculate the carbon dioxide emissions from daily activities and then offset the corresponding carbon dioxide in the atmosphere through environmental protection such as tree planting.
In order to achieve this goal, the Costa Rican government began to impose a 3.5% fuel tax from 15 years ago and used part of the fuel tax to pay for environmental protection and compensation for owners who do not reclaim forests.
At the 2009 UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, the Costa Rican delegation also proposed to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by at least 45% by 2020.
