Croatia , officially known as the Republic of Croatia, is a country at the crossroads of Central and Southeast Europe, on the Adriatic Sea. The sovereign state of Croatia is a republic governed under a parliamentary system and a developed country with a very high standard of living. It is a member of the European Union (EU), the United Nations (UN), the Council of Europe, NATO, the World Trade Organization (WTO), and a founding member of the Union for the Mediterranean. Croatian is the official language of Croatia, and became the 24th official language of the European Union upon its accession in 2013.
Croatia is located in Central and Southeast Europe, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea.
Most of Croatia has a moderately warm and rainy continental climate as defined by the Köppen climate classification. Mean monthly temperature ranges between −3 °C (27 °F) in January and 18 °C (64 °F) in July.
Croatia is classified as a high-income economy by the United Nations. International Monetary Fund data projects that Croatian nominal GDP stands at $54.758 billion, or $13,271 per capital for 2017, while purchasing power parity GDP stands at $102.113 billion, or $24,748 per capital.
Literacy in Croatia stands at 99.2 per cent. Croatia has eight public universities, the University of Dubrovnik, University of Osijek, University of Pula, University of Rijeka, University of Split, University of Zadar and University of Zagreb, and two private universities, Catholic University of Croatia and Dubrovnik International University.
