Compare the Belgian education system and choose an immigrant status for your children

             
In Belgium, children can attend a nursing school before the age of 6 and enroll from 2 and a half years old, which is not compulsory.

Belgian compulsory education is free from the age of 6 to 18 years old. It includs the primary school for six years, from the first grade to the sixth grade, corresponding to children between the ages of 6 to 12. The secondary school from 12 to 18 years old that the seventh grade to the twelfth grade divided into three stages as one stage every two years.

Belgian secondary schools are divided into four categories: general secondary, technical secondary, vocational secondary and art secondary schools.

General secondary schools: generally, for students who continue to pursue higher education such as university in the future.

Technical secondary schools: There are mainly divided into two courses, TTK and STK. TTK is biased towards technology and STK is biased towards time. Generally, you can start to work until complete STK. You should continue study if you completed TTK. The projects that continue to study can choose the seventh specialization year, bachelor’s or master's study.

Vocational secondary schools: you will engage in secondary school study of a specific occupation for the future. You can get the BSO after completing the vocational secondary school. You can get the TSO certificate if you continue to read the seventh or eighth specialization year. You can continue to study higher education when you hold on the TSO certificate, expect BSO certificate.

Art secondary schools: Focus on art education on the basis of general education and continuing to study art colleges and universities in the future.

Belgian higher education is mainly divided into two regions, the Flemish community and the French community.
Belgian higher education institutions mainly include universities and colleges. Only universities can award doctoral degrees and colleges can award professional bachelor degree.
